Synopsis

Two villagers who grew apart are re- united by fate. On the eve of their departure to the big city, they both discover LOVE. Teddy is in love with his fiancée, Vimbayi, who bore him beautiful twin sons. And Tafadzwa is in love of his own dying sister. The lives of the two village friends take a twist when they learn about a diamond rush somewhere in Zimbabwe. Their hearts yearning for the riches, dreams swelling of greed- they want in!

Synopsis

Pub Stories is a play adapted from one of Zimbabwe’s most prolific, award winning and internationally acclaimed writer, Dambudzo Marechera. At the core of the play’s story is Dambudzo’s quest for freedom in the highest sense. The story of a man willing to seek, to the point of self-destruction, his own notion of free will-Freedom beyond a politically defined form of itself, freedom from systems, from society’s chains, dogma, the state and all things in him (us). Using movement, symbolism, text and five actors, the story re-envisions The Pub Stories as one unified narrative.

Pub Stories had its premiere at Harare International Festival of the Arts, 29April-6 May 2013 It was also performed at The Intwasa Festival in September 2013, the Protest Arts International Festival in October 2013 and Tsoho International Community and Dance Festival, Bloemfontein, South Africa in March 2014.
At the 2014 National Arts Merit Awards, Pub Stories provided the Best Actor and Best Actress in the Theatre Category.
