Savanna Trust Launches UKAMA

Savanna Trust is pleased to announce the premier of our brand new production, UKAMA, at Alliance Francaise Harare on Wednesday 20 June at 1830hrs

 

This is a one hour long production written and directed by multi award winning South African writer and director, Bongani Bennedict Masango and features celebrated actors Teddy Mangawa, Charlene Mangweni and Heather Mlingo.

This story explores issues of marriage and failure to conceive, family relations, urban and regional migration, and other issues relating to the girl child. Set in rural Zimbabwe, an ambitious 17 year old girl Anaisha who is orphaned early lives with her married sister and dreams of furthering her education and unearth her dreams beyond the borders of her village. Her sister and husband after years of trying to conceive, see in the young girl an
answer to their problem and devise a sinister plan. Tension and discomfort in the family follow as things fall apart. Dreams and hopes are at risk.

A well crafted story that is delivered using magical realism and unfolds through dialogue and narration
